About Me
| Introduction | Hi there! My name is Catalina Carlton. I’m a born and raised Californian. I’ve lived all over the state, but I’m new to Humboldt. I feel absolutely at home already though I do miss being in close proximity to the incredibly diverse food that big cities offer! Learning how to cook Indian food has been…interesting. But I’m getting better! When I’m not in the studio or studying I am outside searching for sunshine. On weekends I like to road trip to visit friends and family, backpack with my fiance, or in general do/see/eat/try/explore something – anything – new! |
| What I Love about Ceramics | Besides the transformative and meditative process, I love the community. Being a studio arts major, I know firsthand that no other art classes have the same sense of connection and liveliness that you experience when you step into a ceramics studio. |
| How I started with ceramics | I finally got into my first ceramics class in community college in 2017 and something just clicked into place for me. I had always loved art, but I had never felt TRUE passion about anything like this before. I would spend 10 hours in the studio without realizing it – I still do. I had taken a couple of clay workshops when I was a kid and had always been fascinated with it. It wasn’t until I got on the wheel in that first class when I was 26 that I had a flashback of a little plastic wheel I’d had when I was about 4. I am forever grateful that ceramics found me again. Now I’m a BFA/Art Education student studying ceramics at Humboldt State University (Cal Poly Humboldt). |
| What inspires me | Dreams. Nature. Other artists. My friends, family, and fiance. Illustration. Sci-fi and fantasy. The Ceramics Congress – looking forward to my 4th!!! |
| What I'm working on at the moment | I just got into sculpting! I always thought I was just a terrible hand builder and it wasn’t for me but it turns out I love it as much as I love throwing.
