THE CRAFT POTTERY CHARITABLE TRUST
The Ceramic Art: Grants to Studio Ceramic Artists
Program Description
The Ceramic Art: Grants to Studio Ceramic Artists programme supports studio-based ceramic practices
and curatorial research in contemporary studio ceramics. Grants cover direct expenses for a period of
independent research, creation, production of artworks for public exhibitions or development of prototypes
and promotional material.
Deadline
15 January
If this date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day.
Grant Amount
The maximum grant amount that you can receive from this program is £1,000.
Grants can be used for a period of independent research and creation of a body of work; the development of
prototypes; participation in artists’ residencies and specialised professional development activities (such as
workshops or specialised training); as well as production of work for confirmed public exhibitions in the UK
and/or abroad.
Eligibility
Note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will receive a grant. To apply you must
be a British citizen or have permanent resident status, as defined by UK Visas and Immigration.
You must also meet the definition of a professional artist, which is an artist who:
• has specialised training in the artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions)
• is recognized as a professional by his or her peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition)
• is committed to devoting time to artistic activity
To meet the definition of a professional ceramic artist or a contemporary studio ceramics curator, you must also
have:
• maintained a professional practice for at least two years after or during specialised training.
• produced an independent body of work
• for an artist: had at least three public presentations of your work in a professional context over a two
year period
• for a curator: curated at least three exhibitions or public presentations of contemporary studio ceramics
in a professional context over a two year period.
