About Me

Introduction

I am a one woman operation working from my home studio in Austin, Tx. I am a metalworker, glass worker and clay dabbler, though I am hoping to become more proficient with time. I am focusing on learning how clay can help me realize my ideas in sculpture and integrating clay with metal and glass.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love the ability to make clay look like other materials and that it is somewhat more immediate. I have been working in metal and paper for the last 13 years which has a number of technical limitations that make clay feel really liberating like I’m a kid again. I started working with clay in 2020 during the pandemic, so I am a clay newbie. I don’t have any training in ceramics, so I blow a lot of stuff up and am constantly experimenting with weird combinations. My goal is to make sculptures that integrate clay, glass and metal.

How I started with ceramics

My partner has been a ceramicist for the last several years and during the pandemic in 2020, I really needed something to get excited about again. Working in a new medium like clay was definitely what I was looking for.

What inspires me

Insects, my garden, plant diseases, architecture, marine animals, swamps

What I'm working on at the moment

I am currently working on a small series of sculptures.

My Artist Statement

I am a full-time artist creating sculptures, ceramics, and jewelry inspired by plants and insects. My current sculptural works and wearable art are influenced by my research of the flora and fauna of central Texas and the plants and insects in my personal gardens. Insects, plants, and systems of modularity inspire me.
