About Me

Introduction

I am a digital and graphics artist retired, currently enhancing my avocational artistic pursuits of oil and acrylic painting and portraiture, with studies in linocut printing and ceramics.

What I Love about Ceramics

It has been a lifelong desire to get my hands and heart into the earthy connection of creation with clay.  I’m thrilled that it has now begun!

How I started with ceramics

My first inkling of ceramics was—as a young child—watching my mother sculpt a small bust of Elvis Presley.  It was so good and realistic.  I asked her where she had learned to do this and she told me she learned it from my grandmother—who had only had time to show me things like tatting.  But everyone was busy elsewhile, trying to make a living, so I let this curiosity fester until I had a chance to find polymer clay, where I could fit making beads and intricate patterned canes into the crevices available to a mother with 3 children and 3part time jobs.

I told myself that when I finished working so hard, the first thing I’d do would be learning to manipulate clay.  So here I am.

What inspires me

I’m inspired by the direct connection of hand to clay and the feel of the shapes and forms which are hidden and anxious to be made from that connection.

What I'm working on at the moment

A planter and designing sprig molds.  I just started throwing but am still partial to hand building at this time.

My Artist Statement

I am an artist first, and then collector.  My ultimate dream is to be part of building or supporting a museum so that children and adults can have a place to see the world through the passion of art.

My CV

I created my own job that fused the legal world with visual enhancements to help push information past words and into universally impactful experiences by using images to represent concepts like patterns which emerge through the depiction of time passage when collated into multi-functional timelines.

Now, I’m just thrilled to make an object with my hands and savor the time with which I have to do it.  Life is good.
