Introduction
I was born in Riga, Latvia to Ukrainian parents. Lived in Ukraine, then moved with family to Germany and at 16 I went to England to learn the language… ended up meeting my husband here, together with our 2 daughters we lived in Spain for 9 years and are now back in the Uk once again.
Currently I make sculptural pieces, small in porcelain and larger in stoneware. Also throwing on a miniature potters wheel ( fun!)
Interested in finding out what I make next and where it’ll take me.

What I Love about Ceramics
Ceramics is my first love and it has not faded ever and I really hope it never does!
I love the texture of clay, my favorite is the leather hard stage- kind of finished but you can still alter it- I love the sheen of the surface. Hand building is probably my go to but I also enjoy throwing sometimes, meditative action is very soothing.

How I started with ceramics
I first found clay on the river bank while on a camping family holiday when I was 5/6 years old, it was near Chernobyl and a year before the place became what it did. I made a duck, live size and of course it never got fired. I never got to see clay again for years. I did find Fimo when I was 12 and loved making small animals until I moved to England where eventually I joined college and did a C&G course in Art, Design and Ceramics.
I studied for about 6 years and during that time managed to set up my own home studio. I had exhibited and had commissions but it’s always because I’m dragged into it rather than my own initiative- I’m a bit of a chicken.

What inspires me
I love sculpture, the human face in particular. Some people’s faces as I walk past them on the street fascinate me and I want to take a picture ( but don’t obv). Hands are a close second.
Repeat pattern and ornament, surfaces covered in texture, particularly dots or stripes.
Mystical creatures, part human part animal.

What I'm working on at the moment
I’m working on my mindset. I find it extremely difficult to put myself out there. I know people like what I make but I’m blocked probably by fear…. Hoping to change that very soon.
