I could use some advice. I want to make a mold of some brooches. The last mold I made doesn’t work, the brooches don’t want to come out in one piece, they get stuck by the rim (see first picture). I don’t want to make the same mistake 🙈
So now, I think will make a two-piece mold. My questions are:1. How big should the pouring hole be? The brooches are quite thin, so I don’t think I can make them to big.
2. Is it wiser to make of each brooch a separate mold? or is it best to make one mold with all six? What do you think?
Does someone has experience with this?Sepideh Jahanpanah and Suzzannemarie-
super cute! Look, I wonder why you wanna make a pouring mould in first place. if it is only because they stuck on the edges, I guess you might have more issues with pouring in such tiny scale. before you get to fill the whole mould, the pouring hole might get stuck quickly after you start . I have also made tini tiny moulds like yours and I just always scratch the inner edges enough to make sure that they are vertical and make a right angle with the surface of the plaster, therefor there is no space for the clay to get stuck. I really think my comment won’t make any sense for person who reads it!!! 😉

Thanks! Yes, I know it’s a difficult task 😅 But I’m determined to make it work. I will try to make the edges as vertical as possible, good point!
Do you have pictures of your molds you want to share?-
Good luck! I will try to remember to take one and upload here. they are tiny bugs 🐞

Love those tiny faces 🙂 I think you might have more success just press molding into the moulds with plastic clay (on a slightly drier stage, not sticky wet), and pulling them out while they are still plastic as well.
