About Me
Introduction | My name is Mary Lee Edwards. I live in Timberlea, Nova Scotia, Canada. I am fairly new to ceramics and am currently making mugs, bowls, lidded jars, garden decorations, flower pots, etc. both thrown and hand built.  I have done some carving and painting on my work and have just started to experiment with underglaze decals. I am still working full time but try to get as many hours in my tiny basement studio, (my happy place), as I can. I am currently taking a virtual Glaze Consistency course and have started collecting materials that will allow me to dabble in mixing my own glazes. So much to learn but I just don’t seem to be able to get enough of it. |
My Artist Statement | I am working with stoneware clay, white, red and speckled and firing to Cone 6. As mentioned above I am currently concentrating on mastering glaze consistency and am immersed in a wonderful online course that has opened up a whole new world giving me the confidence to move away from commercial premixed glazes into experimenting with mixing and testing glazes from scratch. |
My CV | Due to my age (63) a career in clay is not an option any longer, (although it was definately my dream when I was younger) and I have not yet gotten the confidence to enter my pieces into shows. I do sell some pieces but mostly to my coworkers and my family is always happy enough to relieve me of a number of pieces |
