About Me

Introduction

Hi there, my name is James Seet and I am a multi-disciplined artist from Malaysia. I used to paint and illustrate on canvas and rice paper. I also illustrate and sculpt with paper and clay, but clay seems to be my chosen medium of expression. I guess the clay processes are more fun and challenging to do.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love getting my hands dirty and work directly on the medium and I love 3 dimensional work. Love throwing and hand building and possibilities it provides.

How I started with ceramics

I started with plasticine and air-dry clay but I wanted something more permanent.

What inspires me

I am inspired by stories, concepts and ideas. I get motivated by a good book, a thought provoking statement or a real life experience. In the same way, I wish to always tell stories through my work and engage with the public to leave behind a connection or a lingering thought and evoke a feeling. That in turn inspires me to create more.

What I'm working on at the moment

I am applying for 2 different grants for 2 new works. Stay tune on my instagram. https://www.instagram.com/jamesseetart/

My Artist Statement

In the quest for eternal change as an artist, I find it essential to tell stories, the dramas of life that may begin with something obscure to the infinite complexity that tickles the emotion. It’s a visual representation of a dialogue I am after, a theatrical performance to the eyes that behold!
