2 years agoHello All,
I would like to create the underglaze bleeding effect using Jeff’s Campana glaze recipe. I looked the recipe up on Glazy.com and was wondering what mesh size of silica I should be using – or at least start out while testing? Should I be using the finest, 325 mesh size?

Also worth mentioning – I’ve never made my own clear glaze before. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have done as much research as possible and have my studio set up including all the necessary safety precautions.
Has anyone here used this particular clear glaze in this application?
Thanks,
Kathy-
I haven’t tried that particular clear glaze before. Did you have any luck? I’ve also never thought about mesh size, good point. What did you end up trying?

The silica was on backorder via The Ceramic Shop and it just came in the other day. I purchased the Silica, 325 mesh – hope that’s correct! I know of two artists that use Jeff’s Campana Clear – Chandra DeBuse and Laurie Caffrey – but, I don’t know them enough to poke their brains about the details of this glaze. I already asked Caffrey what glaze she uses to confirm my suspicion that she uses Campana. Anyway, thanks for your response!!! I’ll let you know what sort of results I get.
