About Me
| Introduction | I’m Julie Arseneault. I’m from New Brunswick, Canada. I’m a physician by day and hobby potter by night/when I have free time. I love making fine wheel thrown porcelain. I love translucent pieces. I dislike making the same thing twice and usually am learning a new technique. I don’t sell my pieces, I just make them for fun. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | Ceramics help me feel like a child again, and explore my relationship with art. It helps me be present and explore various emotions. |
| How I started with ceramics | I took a 6 week intro class and was hooked! Got my own studio a few months later. |
| What inspires me | People, online classes, online groups. I like to play with clay and explore how I relate to the emotions that come up for me during the creative process. I’m trying to de-censure myself, as I have a tendency to try to avoid less pleasant emotions, and this censorship decreases my creativity. I try to turn “mistakes” or pieces I dislike into something different that I may like. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | What I’m working on changes every week. I like making silkscreens, using underglaze transfers, doing sgraphito, testing new glazes, making colored clay and paper clay, occasionally sculptures. |
