About Me
Introduction | Hello, fellow clay enthusiasts! I am Alicia. I grew up in San Antonio, TX. Since becoming a military spouse I have traveled to different states creating ceramics. I mostly explore, create, and study functional pottery. However I am continually fascinated by sculpture of the human body. Of which I have only made a handful of small pieces. My studio is tiny, at the moment I only have use of a one car garage to work. Working with clay has definitely created challenges. One of the biggest ones is not having a kiln. (I confess that I don’t want to buy a kiln and risk it getting broken in a move *cringing face*). That said these challenges caused me to learn to be creative in other ways. LOL. I am so excited to be here and to learn so much from seasoned artists. Learning is a never ending journey and when it comes to ceramics I’m all in! <3 |
What I Love about Ceramics | There is so much history associated with ceramics. So many different artists have created individual voices with this medium that, in my opinion, far exceeds that of traditional mediums like drawing and painting. There is no limit to this medium. I can’t help but be excited thinking about all the ways IÂ have seen clay used and want to try myself as well as testing out my own ideas. I could talk for hours about clay, techniques, and glazes. |
How I started with ceramics | In college I signed up for a ceramics class. It was not long before I became a huge fan of all things clay. |
What inspires me | Ceramics itself inspires me. I am constantly on the lookout for clay made pieces to admire and study. Having a mindset devoted to continual exploration of this medium has given me a great deal of joy. It has also helped me confront myself personally to search for what Id like my “artist voice” to be. I am still learning and searching. I hope to inspire other artists along my journey. To share the joy of creating with others, that is what inspires me most. |
