About Me
| Introduction | I’m Morag, new to pottery and ceramics. I’m based rurally on the west coast of Scotland. After my first potter’s wheel as a 6 year old in the 70s, I hadn’t touched clay again until about 2 years ago. Since then, I’ve had a couple of throwing classes, taken an evening ceramic sculpture course at college and taken a few hand building and decorating courses locally at Drey Workshop and have fallen in love. I got my first wheel and threw my first pots beside the lawnmower in the garden shed and now have my own workshop in the garden, with a kiln as a recent addition. I’m enjoying throwing bowls and they can all be seen in the cupboards of friends and family – I think they are looking forward to me expanding my repertoire! I have signed up to my first ‘stall’ at a local fundraiser, so ‘here goes’ as they say! |
| What I Love about Ceramics | I love that I can get lost in my shed for hours on end, up to my elbows and beyond in clay. It is pure escapism. |
| How I started with ceramics | The Great Pottery Throwdown (UK) has a lot to answer for. It rekindled my early love of pots as a child. |
| What inspires me | I think it’s form and symmetry in throwing, hoping my decoration will come naturally soon. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | I’m playing about with smallish functional things as I have a new kitchen and the children send me things they see online and think I could do that! |
| My Artist Statement | ‘ A Work in Progress’ as both artist and art. |
| My CV | Little Ceramics or pottery based – but keen to practice and learn. |
