About Me
Introduction | Hi, I’m Cherie Prins! Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve always had my hands in something creative—mostly clay, but sometimes cake batter. I create functional ceramics with an eye for detail and a love for the quirky because, let’s be honest, life’s too short for boring dishes! When I’m not covered in clay, you’ll find me baking up a storm for my community (because who doesn’t love cake?). And somehow, since moving to a small town during lockdown, I’ve become a full-blown chicken person. Didn’t see that one coming, but here we are!

How I started with ceramics | Coming from a family of artists, I was always drawn to the magic of clay. In school, I took ceramics as a subject and quickly fell in love with the medium. After school my journey in ceramics began in 2001 when I apprenticed for four years under a renowned South African ceramic artist. After exploring other career paths, I eventually returned to ceramics, knowing it was where I was meant to be. Driven by a deep passion for ceramics, I founded my own studio in 2009 and grew it into a thriving business with six employees. Over the years, I crafted unique ceramic pieces for customers worldwide, taught pottery classes, and hosted group events and team-building workshops. As a speaker at various events, I shared insights into both the artistic and business aspects of ceramics. In 2020, I sold my business and relocated to a small town, where I continue to create custom ceramic pieces for galleries and clients while still teaching. After years of focusing on others, I am finally exploring my own artistic voice and what truly excites me. Additionally, I have been freelancing as a virtual assistant for The Ceramic School since 2020, combining my industry expertise with administrative support. |
