My Ceramics

In the studio I like to do

Handbuilding, Throwing on the Wheel

Pottery Wheel

A dinosaur named Henry. Lol. He’s a big strong fellow that pulls his weight and balances my work like a champion! He’s a 350 pound kick wheel! Probably from about 1974 lol. Don’t get too excited though, as he is also electric lol. I just love him! Haven’t thrown on anything else in 7 years. Hhhmmm I wonder how a Shimpo would feel now lol lol.

Clay body

Earthenware, Stoneware

Clay Brand

Stoneware is my true love, BUT….I have been working recently with clays I’ve dug up within my province and property and have been experimenting with those.

Kiln Type

Electric Kiln

Temperature

^5 -6

Glaze

A variety of commercial glazes such as Amaco, Coyote, Spectrum, Potters Choice, but I also have a nice collection of my own mixed recipes that are my go to first. 🙂

You can buy my work from

Me. Lol, Get in touch, let’s have a chit chat and a cuppa 🙂

About Me

Introduction

My name is actually Lesley, not Lucy as my pottery name may suggest lol.  I live in a wee log cabin on my wee 4 acres of forested New Brunswick Canada piece of paradise. With my Spoonman, (he hand carves spoons and all kitchen utensils lol ) our Great Pyrenees Oliver, Frankerella our miss mew, and Rumpy our neurotic Manx boy lol.
I’m a true Canuck gal, outdoors for most of the 24 hour day no matter the weather, have a 15 foot tall Wickiup (look it up lol) out in the woods that I like to sit and drum, or hum, or just do some outdoor cooking in.
Needless to say the majority of my pieces are nature based in texture and colour. Mother Earth and I kinda like it that way. If asked if it can be made in purple instead, we’ll, ummm, I just shake my head sadly. They missed it. Just didn’t get it, pun intended lol.

What I Love about Ceramics

The unique possibilities for creation.
The ancient history told from broken shards of pottery throughout the ages.
The imperfections of getting it just perfect.
The feel, the smell, the childhood delight of each new ball of clay in my hands.
Really,  what’s not to love about such an old voice.
