About Me
Introduction | Hey there! I’m Carole, aka Musing About Mud, aka completely obsessed ceramic collector, artist, writer, and curator. I’m a maker of illustrative pottery filled with narratives of love, life and all aspects of the human condition. Over the years I’ve tried most things ceramic related; built a horrible raku kiln as an undergrad, made large scale installation work, slip-cast, handbuilt and wheel threw all sorts of silly and sometimes successful things; had some shows, gone to grad school, wrote a book about ceramics with a dear friend, maintained a blog for almost 15 years, and on and on….. |
What I Love about Ceramics | There is literally nothing not to love about ceramics! Even the challenges and failures keep me coming back for more. |
How I started with ceramics | I started in ceramics in my undergrad. Fell in love almost immediately. I’ve always maintained sculptural as well as functional lines of work since, because, well, I just kinda want to do it all. |
What inspires me | The three most inspiring things to me are as follows: My kids. Cheezy I know, but they have taught me to see the world with so much hope and passion, silliness and joy. Plus children’s illustration is some of the best art out there in my opinion. This ceramics community. Every day I get up and get to hang out with incredibly talented and beautiful souls. I learn something new every day and fall in love with a new way of working in ceramics thanks to the artists around me. The human condition. I’m an observer, a romantic, and all I want is to learn about life through the eyes and experiences of others so that I can be a better human.
