Lithium carbonate supplies Li2O.
Relatively pure source of lithium in glazes. Theoretical formula Li2CO3 (40.4% Li2O); most supplies are over 99% pure.
Manufactured in the U.S. by Cyprus Specialty Metals (Foote Mineral Company) and by Lithium Corporation of America. Cyprus’ lithium carbonate comes from deposits created by solar evaporation of brackish pond waters containing high concentrations of lithium salts; these deposits are mined in Silver Peak, NV, and also exist in other locations in the West. Lithium Corp. creates lithium carbonate by processing spodumene (Bessemer City, NC). Slightly soluble in water; solubility decreases with rising temperature [Parmelee].
