Hi, everybody! Thank you for joining me today for this workshop. I’m Eloisa Gobbo.
I’m an artist from Italy and my workshop will cover ceramic decoration techniques.
I will be showing you the working process of planning, drawing, and painting apparently complex composition and decoration. Starting from the observation of the shape, I will be showing you how to give the best decorative appearance to your ceramic work. Step by step, I will be demonstrating the surface decoration with different techniques and colors, like engobe and underglaze colors. Basically, what I’m going to show you today is the process that I use to make these kind of works, but also the disk shapes, which are a part of a more complex installation composed by 30 different pieces.
We are going right from the beginning stages of gluing the pattern on the surface of the bisque ware to the final stages of painting and firing. So, if you like, join me.

Eloisa Gobbo is an Italian artist living and working between Padua and Milan in Italy. She received a BFA in Painting from Brera Academy of Fine Art in Milan, where she is a Professor of the Chromatology Course. The work of Eloisa Gobbo sits at the intersection of craft, design and art, exploring contemporary themes through design and decoration, conceived of as a visual language that expresses personal and socially topical content. Her works have been noted for the use of bright colors and for the combination of ornamental motifs from disparate contexts, from Eastern and Western decorative tradition, which create on the surface the illusion of an elusive space, composed of a multiplicity of planes, which together contribute to the effect of a large and joyful universe. In 2022 she won the Premio Iris from Iris Foundation and received the residency grant of Montelupo Fiorentino from the Bienal of Manises in Valencia, Spain. In 2021, her work won the second price at the Premio MIDEC, International Museum of Ceramic in Laveno, Italy. In 2009 her work was shortlisted for the prestigious Fabbri Prize of the homonymous company.Eloisa Gobbo work’s has been exhibited widely, including the Chini Museum of Borgo San Lorenzo – Firenze (2022), Museu de Cerà mica de Manises (2022), the Midec, International Museum of Ceramic (2021), the Bozar, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Bruxelles, Belgium (2019), the Hubei Museum of Art in China (2015), the Civic Museum of Palazzo Volpi in Como (2012), the Royal Palace in Milan (2007). She has been a resident artist at Centro Sperimentale Ceramico in Montelupo Fiorentino in Italy, the Sculpture Space in NY, the Blue Mountain Center in NY, the Anderson Center in Minnesota and the Vermont Studio Center in Vermont, USA.
Eloisa Gobbo has won some competitions to create public works of art, such as those for the Pile-dweller Museum in Trento, or for a Nursery School in Ravina, both in Italy.
