Salutations!
I’m Clayton  – a part-time ceramicist from Cape Town, South Africa.
I have a penchant for delving into handbuilt clay work, in-between lecturing in communication design.
Yes, it’s completely different – and that’s a good thing!
Every time I try different forms and clay bodies and skirt around the issue of glaze- favouring a more raw look with underglaze and oxide washes.
The biggest trick is firing in between the load shedding we have in South Africa, but somehow we find the time in the wee hours of the night.

As I hand build my work no two are the same- even if I wanted them to be.
They also carry the personality of the maker in the imperfections – that make the difference in each form.
