About Me
Introduction | I’m a potter/clay artist/clay addict, as well as a mom of 4 (now young adult) children, wife to an amazingly supportive guy, and a technical writer (to pay bills and support my clay addiction). I have been throwing pots for over 20 years now, mostly cone 5/6 stoneware, fired in an electric kiln. I love Coyote glazes (I’m not mathematical enough to make my own) and I’ve recently (since the last clay congress) become obsessed with colored clay. |
What I Love about Ceramics | Everything! But I’m currently obsessed with colored clay |
How I started with ceramics | I was on vacation and the resort offered an “open wheel” session. (Probably intended for people who knew what they were doing.) The guy running the session was kind enough to get me centered, and that was it! I was obsessed! |
What inspires me | Color! The colors of the beach at sunrise, or the mountains in the summer… |
What I'm working on at the moment | Experimenting with colored clay, both nerikomi and colored slip. |
My Artist Statement | I love functional pots. I love the idea of the things I’ve made being used, and used well and often. As a result, most of my work is mid-range stoneware, fired with food-safe glazes. The exception would be my African Violet Pots, which are a combination of mid-range stoneware and low-fired whiteware. And sometimes, I find that some feelings just don’t fit the “functional pots”, and I find myself working things out in sculptures. Clay is amazing, the width and breadth of what it can do and what it can be! |
My CV | Pretty low-key… local shows primarily. |
