About Me

Introduction

My name is Damienne Ehlenfeldt, although everyone calls me Dani.  I am from Grand Rapids Michigan, and I interested in learning as much as I can.  I am currently taking Pottery 101 at my local community college as an art elective for my AA degree.  I love what I have done so far and my Professor thinks I should consider a career as he was shocked I had never taken a pottery class before.  I learned a lot from the different videos and websites that he sent us to for research.  I plan to do more pottery and will be taking the throwing class in the fall semester.  I have only used hand built techniques and I am looking for a pottery studio with a kiln that I can belong to for pay a firing fee so I can continue to create.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love the creativity of it, I really enjoyed my sgraffito project for class, and would like to do more.  I also like being able to create something that can be used and not just hung on the wall like my illustrations and paintings.

How I started with ceramics

I needed more art electives for my degree that were offered in the evenings as I work full time during the day and I am going back to school in the evenings.  After being told they were not going to offer the drawing and painting classes I wanted to take when I could take them, one of the only remaining options was Pottery 101.  I am so glad I took the class and have fallen in love with creating in clay.

What inspires me

I am inspired by nature and also my own artwork.  I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher and I really had fun adding in Zentangle decoration elements on my finished pieces or when glazing.

What I'm working on at the moment

I am currently working on glazing all the hand built boxes, lanterns, bowls, and vases that I made in class before the end of the semester.

My Artist Statement

I don’t really have a clear artist statement when it comes to ceramics, as I am still learning and don’t really have a vision of where I want to go with this.

My CV

As an artist I participated in ArtPrize 2017 and ArtPrize 2018, I sold both pieces.
