About Me
| Introduction | Hello I am Jeanette Porter from Aurora Colorado where for many years I have owned a ceramic studio. Â Many years teaching and the same amount learning. Â Always looking for what interests me most and what is next. Â Currently watched the best class here on making Ribs at home!! Â I plan to add these tools to my studio. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | Ceramics to me is perfect alchemy. Â You use the four main elements (earth, air, Fire and Water) and then impart a piece of yourself in everything you make. Â I have made many things in the past starting at 15 with traditional ceramics and glazing. Â Moved to making dolls and opening a 5K square foot teaching studio to now my own personal studio where I can just get lost myself in the clay. Â I love that it is equal parts science and imagination. |
| How I started with ceramics | I wanted to make gifts for family. Â I watched this commercial on tv for salsa and then watched a neighbor make their own home made. Â It had never occurred to me at the young age of 15 you could do this stuff yourself. Â It became an obsession in life to find something that pulled my interest and then learn it backwards and forward, inside and out. Â Now clay is like an extension of me. |
| What inspires me | I love natural things and designs. Â I live to give my pottery an earthy look. Â A tumbler shaped more like a vessel of old or a tea bowl with a lovely foot. Â It all pulls me in. Â I also love talented people and learning what they know and share. Â I am inspired by Matthew Kelly a production potter as well as Florian Gadsby. Â Both very talented people. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | Right now I am moving my studio. Â We are finishing the space and making it ready. Â I have been working in my sunroom which is fine but it is too cold to stay in this time of the year. Â I want a permanent place I can go to all the time. |
| My Artist Statement | https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086341972189Â Is a link to Behind the Waterfall on Facebook and for now that is the best place to see what I am up to. |
| My CV | I have displayed and taught at the Inner Mountain Ceramic organization many times. Â I have also earned a Freddy and Peggy award by Popular Ceramics when it was in print. Â I have won Best in Show and Best in category several times for awards. |
