About Me
Introduction | Hello! My name is Katlynn, and I live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia with my two cats. I make mostly wheel-thrown pottery, but do make some handbuilt work and sculptures. |
What I Love about Ceramics | I love how versatile and useful ceramics is. There are so many different ways to make that same thing, and the history and culture behind different items and clays is just amazing. There’s always something to learn, and someone to learn from. |
How I started with ceramics | My clay journey started in 2017, when I took my first wheel-throwing class. I took classes off and on for the first year, then became more regular as time went on. I started selling my work in 2020 and started my own business that same year. I’ve now done seven wood firings and teach surface decorating workshops as well. |
What inspires me | My inspiration mostly comes from illustrations, fabrics and ceramics I see in museums and galleries. I love surface decoration, so I pull swatches from textiles and artwork. I also like to experiment with different forms and I love some of the classic forms reflected in ancient pottery. |
What I'm working on at the moment | I’m currently getting ready for summer craft shows, so I’m working on a lot of mugs and vases. I’m also trying to get a head-start on holiday items. Over the next month I will likely be painting and carving a lot of work. |
