About Me
| Introduction | Hi, Ruth here. I live in Norfolk, UK. I am a home potter. I throw pots and glaze them in crystalline glazes, which I have formulated from scratch. I also like Anglian Potters. Through this local organisation, I have had the opportunity do wood firing kiln’s. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | I love the endless possibilities, you just have to figure out how to make something, and it can be real. It’s the surest way I know of letting someone else see what is in my imagination. |
| How I started with ceramics | I got started with a week’s throwing course with Deborah Baynes in Suffolk, then adult Ed classes, then a lot of research, trying things out, online glaze course with the ceramic materials workshop. |
| What inspires me | I am inspired by the relative newness of my field, less than 150 years is a baby in ceramic terms. There are so many things we don’t know for sure yet. Maybe I can help find out. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | New forms, larger forms, new glaze bases, new oxide combinations. |
| My Artist Statement | I want to bring something into your word that makes you feel more positive every time you glance at it, and contains endless complexity, which can be calming to peer into. |
| My CV | I am so looking forward to getting new work out in the public eye this year, I barely want to think back. But I have curated my own group show in my home, I have shown and sold work in online and physical shows and fairs. With the Anglian Potters I have led wood firing weekend workshops. |
