About Me

Introduction

My name is Sharon Melon and I am from a small town in Ohio.

I am currently working with bisque and playing with different ways to use them.

I was gifted a pottery wheel for Christmas and have only worked with it once and need a lot of instructions in order to make pots and vases and what ever else I can learn to make.  I like to do different thing with clay but actually my success rate is very low and I have wasted a whole lot of clay.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love watching the pieces come to life this is an great feeling to watch them come alive.  I love to dry brush ceramics and have really been doing a lot glazes using jungle gem glazes and other glazes. I love learning different techniques.

Working at ceramics is my happy place and is great therapy with struggles going on in my life

How I started with ceramics

I started doing ceramics back in the 80’s and did them off and on until the 90’s when I really got involved in ceramics helping at a local studio and learned how to pour and clean up green ware.  I loved working with the pieces and watching them come to life, and watching others working their magic.

The shop I was working at closed due to the property was bought.  After that it was hard to find another shop I was comfortable in. I moved to a different state and tried to find some where I could get some ceramics from.   I took a clay class but due to where it was located on a second floor with  unsafe steps for me.

Now i have found a place that has a studio with some clay also.  The clay part of it is not really educational you buy clay and just try to do things you want to do.  Now I am in my happy place again

What inspires me

Taking the general idea of what I want to make and having it transform into a piece of art

What I'm working on at the moment

I have a variety of things that I am working on. My latest clay project was making a flower bowl.
