About Me
Introduction | My name is Troy Bungart and I have lived in south west Michigan since 1997. Over the years I have had many interests but the ones that are persistently in my mind and hands are throwing on the wheel, making pottery tools and making brushes. |
What I Love about Ceramics | What I love about ceramics is the feeling of making and the conversation between my hands and mind while I am making. |
How I started with ceramics | I started ceramics the same way many people do in college, it was an elective course and it seemed like it would be fun. It grabbed ahold of me and hasn’t let go since 1982. |
What inspires me | The question “What inspires me” seems a bit much to try and answer here because it is something I am thinking about all the time. When something grabs my attention and pushes its way into my work I try to figure out where that inspiration is coming from and often it is linked to a much earlier memory and it takes time to unpack what that means to me. |
What I'm working on at the moment | At the moment I am transitioning from cone 10 reduction work to cone 6 oxidation work for the winter. My gas kiln is outside and I just don’t feel like battling the elements this winter. So, I’m going to be kind to myself and work with my electric kilns until the seasons change back to in my favor. |
My Artist Statement | I have a restless type of energy that always wants to be doing something, making something. I experiment a lot and like variety in my work. I’m interested in everything to do with ceramics: materials, methods and the community of makers. I respect how pottery captures and carries the story of itself. It speaks volumes. I hope my pottery conveys to you, my collector, the same delight I have enjoyed in making it for you. |
