About Me

Introduction

Hi! My name is Tracey-Ann. I’m originally from Jamaica and currently live in South Florida. I’m about 2 years into my clay journey and slowly learning all the time. There’s nothing in particular that I make because I’m always trying new things. I’ve realized that I fully enjoy carving into my clay works. Maybe that will become a thing for me someday.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love that there seems to be no limits on expression with clay. I love seeing all the amazing art created by all the talented people in the world using clay. I’m a creative in other aspects of my life and ceramics is my new challenge. It is not easy and it’s so complex. I’m thoroughly entertained and engrossed in the whole process. I like to say, “where there’s a will, there’s a way, in clay”. It rhymes!

How I started with ceramics

When I was in college I took one ceramics class and enjoyed learning to work with clay. Fast forward 27 years later, I decided to take a pottery class at the local community senior center. The love affair is now stronger than ever. It’s been two years since, and I’m enjoying learning everything I can about clay, different techniques and all the issues that arise. I hope to become good at this form of expression.

What inspires me

I am inspired by the clay and enjoy seeing the progress and creations of other artists on their clay journey. The ceramics community is open and friendly and it’s nice to learn from each artist as I grow.

What I'm working on at the moment

I’m learning to work on the potters wheel. It’s challenging but I enjoy it. I saved up and was able to get my first pottery wheel. Now I get to practice at home. I’m having a bit of trouble getting the hang of centering and pulling walls. I think I need to make my clay softer. Wish me luck!
