Introduction
I am Kim Swafford presently living in Dripping Springs Texas, but I am originally from Alabama and am planning on returning to Alabama when I retire this summer. Â Pottery is a therapy for me and I have enjoyed working with clay for 39 years. Â I hope to start a small business with pottery part time after I retire. Â I’m learning as much as I can as I look forward to retirement.

What I Love about Ceramics
I love the never-ending creativity and process that comes from a lump of clay. Â Taking the mundane to create a beautiful work of art is so fascinating to me and I love the whole process. Â I see such parrallels for life and it offers such hope.

How I started with ceramics
When I was a teenager, I spotted a potter’s wheel in our High Schools art class. Â It sparked interest and I ended up building myself a kick wheel back in 1974. Â I tried and tried to teach myself to throw a pot from a book or two, but was not very successful. Â I understood the concept but needed a human to walk it through me. Â Fast forward to 1982 and I had the opportunity to take a class at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Â That began a lifelong fascination with clay and throwing pottery. Â Down through the years I have taught pottery, sold pottery in a local gift shops, and now I make mugs for a coffee company to sale at Farmer’s Markets in my free time.
