About Me

Introduction

I have been dabbling in the Arts since a very young age, but it was later in life that I began my career in Clay. I truly found herself in Clay.

My favorite quote :

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off your Soul”

Pablo Picasso

What I Love about Ceramics

Recently I have expanded my artistic expression by working with porcelain. The fluency of porcelain allows me to push the limits of Clay to a more transparent finish, which allows the light to shine through the pieces. When producing a piece, I try to consider its characteristics and how to harmonize the form with different surface decorations while considering how the piece can be altered. The embellished surfaces I enjoy creating, often begin by sketching, engraving, carving, pressing, and clay slip application, allowing glazes (when I use glazes) to pool in the textures, accentuating the depth of her forms.  These designs draw attention to the surface of my work with flowing movement.

How I started with ceramics

While I have been dabbling in the Arts since a very young age, it was in my late 30’s that I began my career in Clay.

What inspires me

Mother Nature is my primary inspiration, along with people and life events.

What I'm working on at the moment

Currently I am working on gaining more experience with porcelain and creating a more designer series of works.

My Artist Statement

Liz Brownrigg is an award-winning clay artist who creates unique sculptures. Mother Nature is her greatest inspiration, with her multiple layers of beauty. Liz’s Art continues to evolve as she strives to push the limits of her imagination, abilities, and the laws of gravity.

While Liz has been dabbling in the Arts since a very young age, it was later in life that she began her career in Clay. In Liz’s words, “She found herself in Clay.”

Liz’s favourite quote:

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off your Soul.”

Pablo Picasso

Liz believes strongly that everyone should own a piece of Art that is as unique as them. Liz has expanded her artistic expression by working with porcelain. The fluency of porcelain allows Liz to push the limits of Clay to a more transparent finish, which allows the light to shine through the pieces. When producing a piece, she considers its characteristics and how to harmonize the form with different surface decorations while considering how the piece can be altered. The embellished surfaces Liz creates begin by sketching, engraving, carving, pressing, and clay slip application, allowing glazes (when she uses glazes) to pool in the textures, accentuating the depth of her forms.  These designs draw attention to the surface of her work with flowing movement.

While Liz enjoys exploring new glaze techniques, her primary finish is Horsehair Raku (Raku * Japanese word for JOY”).

Liz Brownrigg has received awards in the birthplace of the Renaissance period ~ Florence, Italy, and in the Big Apple ~ New York, NY. In addition to Liz’s Awards, her work has been shown on television shows, in two Movies, and in over eleven Magazines, both National & International.
