About Me
Introduction | I am Mandy and live in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. My interest in crramics seems to have been lifelong and have done evening classes in ceramics for two years in the UK and for the last 2.5 years here. Interested in functional and sculptural work, learning techniques and using art skills for decorating. Am obsessed with fish at the moment. |
What I Love about Ceramics | Shape colour texture. The feel and heft of a piece. Function and some aesthetic forms. |
How I started with ceramics | My mum was an artist and my paternal uncle a collector. Must be in the genes. First evening classes 1998 Long Road Sixth form College, Cambridge UK and just loved it as a creative foil to my science career. |
What inspires me | Far too many people and things to name. Life, passion, nature, perfection, dedication, whimsy, beauty, family food and fish |
What I'm working on at the moment | Setting up my own studio, improving my throwing skills using diffrent clay bodies, transforming thrown bowls to other shapes (yes you guessed it – fish), drawing through applied wax as itcis quicker than mishima. Making up and underdtanding glazes. |
