Clay body | Stoneware, Porcelain |
Kiln Type | Electric Kiln |
Kiln Atmosphere | Oxidation Atmosphere |
Temperature | 1280°C |
Glaze | I am currently set up for mostly stoneware glaze. Northcote Pottery’s Jade is a favourite. I love playing around with its volatility, and mixing it with other glazes, dirty sink water, sink sludge, and other materials to see what happens in the kiln. I am also experimenting with Midfire and Low Fire glazes, and will have more pieces available in the future fired at these temperatures. |

About Me
Introduction | Hello I’m Kate. I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I make handbuilt pieces mostly fired to stoneware temperatures. I am in the early stages of my practice, and am interested in developing my work into pieces with more sculptural forms with more sophisticated surfaces. |
What I Love about Ceramics | I love being able to do just about anything with clay! |
How I started with ceramics | A friend was doing some drop in workshops, and put a piece of clay in my hands one weekend. You know the rest of the the story… |
What inspires me | I’m inspired by:

What I'm working on at the moment | After attending some Zoom classes in 2020 with Liz Zlot Summerfield and Naomi Clement, I am trying to find enough time to apply their surface techniques and handbuilding techniques in to my work. It is a slow process, as life and the day job have a way of getting in the way! There are some hints of their influence in my new pieces, but oh for some creative development time to really get my teeth into it!! |
