Introduction
My name is Jeanette I live and work on the West Coast of the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. I enjoy hand building and have attended many workshop but have never had a space or studio of my own to develop the practice.
I am in the process of setting up a community Ceramic hub in Westport on the West Coast. It is a post coal mining town with an abundance of raw materials, talents and local clay. There is a small dedicated group of talented people (kiln builder, retired potters, engineers, geologists, art teachers and a community of very keen participants) we hope to establish a workshop in the near future.

What I Love about Ceramics
In 2022 I spent a month at Driving Creek Pottery in the Coromandel NZ. I was there on a writers residency and my daughter was there on a ceramic residency. This is a fantastic opportunity for ceramic artists to live and work in a remarkable environment 100% focused on ceramic production. It is the legacy of New Zealand Potter Barry Brickle who lived and worked on the 70 hectare property from the 1970s. It is a remarkable place of clay fire energy inspiration and the Driving Creek Railway.
I came away inspired and determined to establish a Community based ceramic hub in my home town.

How I started with ceramics
I was married to a potter in the 1970,s we were part of a wider ceramic community which shared knowledge and always turned up to help with brick scraping and kiln building.
I enjoyed the spirit of the clay.
