About Me
Introduction | Hello! I am AyÅŸe from Istanbul. I hand build lamps, pots, vessels, boxes and whatever else that comes to my mind using coils, slabs, free forms. I am horrible at glazing. I am interested in everything as I haven’t found my niche yet 🙂 And possibly, I never will. I think I might like some carving although I have not yet tried it. |
What I Love about Ceramics | I love to get my hands into clay. I love the backache get from stooping over the counter for hours. I love having something tangible as a result of my efforts. And I love that it may turn out the way I wanted, better or worse, or get destroyed in the process. I love how I do not have any dominion over it. |
How I started with ceramics | My kids and I started going to ceramics classes three years ago in Datça where we spend our summers. Since then, we have been summer ceramicists only 🙂 This year, because of the pandemic, we have stayed in Datça longer than usual which allowed me to get more involved with ceramics. |
What inspires me | I am inspired by any kind of shape and form. Not so much by colors as I am horrible at glazing. |
What I'm working on at the moment | There are so many ideas floating about in my head that I usually do not know what I will do until the last minute. |
My Artist Statement | I’d like to create pieces that have some unexpected twist but I have neither time, experience, talent nor knowledge to do that. So I make whatever I feel like making, hoping that at least one person will like it. |
My CV | I haven’t studied arts. I studied industrial engineering years ago and now, at 42 years of age, I am studying English Language Teaching. |
