About Me
| Introduction | Hello everyone. My name is Alice and I am a proud member of the London Potters Guild, in London, Ontario, which I joined just before my 50th birthday. My husband and I have been married for almost 25 years and I am the proud mum of two young adult sons, who live with us right now due to lovely covid 19. My other interests include Toastmasters (public speaking and leadership group), theatre ( I am a theatre usher), and the Jane Austen Society. Beside my family and community interests, my biggest passion is bereavement, caregiver and palliative care counselling. I also love putting on tea parties for older seniors. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | Everything!!! I really love playing with clay. I love looking at everyone’s else’s finished products and what they are currently working on. But the thing that I love most about pottery and ceramics is the amazing and fascinating people that you meet while you’re doing it. Everyone I have met at the studio since I joined has been kind, helpful, supportive, funny, humble and down to earth. I didn’t expect this but I have had some of the best conversations of my life at the potter’s studio! |
| How I started with ceramics | I did pottery with my mum when I was in grade 5 and it is one of my best childhood memories. When I turned 50, I decided to rediscover that joy. I am a terrible potter still but I love pottery because it is one of the only activities left where you are encouraged to make lots of mistakes and where it is expected you won’t be very good for a long time. |
| What inspires me | The beauty in nature, vibrant colors and texture, texture, texture. I am fascinated by other’s potters handlers on their cups, soup bowls, teapots and casserole dishes. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | I haven’t been able to work on anything right now, except idea generation since the studio is closed and my house is very small. Can’t wait til we can be together again. I hope this ceramics congress gives me lots to think about. It is my first workshop/course/conference outside the London Clay Art Centre |
