| Introduction | I’m geeking out about the Ceramics Congress. Porcelain clay with paper and flax, complex structures, whiteness, digging up own clay, mathematics with organic patterns – glocal producing (global and local. Paimio, Finland based) – all sorts of goodness intrigues me! And having fun. Am a creative sort, so creating is my main aim, what ever means and output it takes. Core messages rule! | What I Love about Ceramics | I love a the feel of it. The texture. I guess that’s why I love porcelain. It’s sort of a dance with hands for me. |
| How I started with ceramics | I went to art school for a year in 2002 and really enjoyed our ceramics courses. |
| What inspires me | All sorts. Dance and movement. Singing. Design. Art. Ghibli. Rothko. Van Gogh. The Sun by Olafur Eliasson Architecture. Aalto. Ceramics as a good quality design for daily use – Iittala, Pentik. Organic, well made patterns – William Morris Advertising – The beatle Ecology – Sustainability |
| What I'm working on at the moment | Creating a design for a plate – decorating with local farm goods: bees, blueberries, honey, strawberries etc. |
| My Artist Statement | I create from the inside out. I usually have a clear impulse about what I want to accomplish, and the materials, form, techniques unfold all from that core insight. I work towards allowing info for those techniques to reach me. Then I arrive at maximum satisfaction, have fun along the way and others enjoy my unique products that are always multi-layered in meaning and connections. In between, there’s often room for playfulness and delight in the spontaneity and discovery. I am the connecting part in all of my projects that range from economics to ceramics to photography to design, to writing to food producing… (yet to be uncovered) It is important to create what I want than to stay in specific boundaries of one single discipline. |
