About Me
| Introduction | My name is Rhonda Howle. My home is partly Darlington SC and partly Columbus GA. At the moment, I am mostly dreaming of a studio and trying to come up with a name. I enjoy working on the wheel. I own a very nice kick wheel. My husband also purchased an old kiln for me, but we have not had it installed. I may decide to buy a new computerized model. You only live once! I enjoy hand building. A slab roller will be one of the first items I purchase for my studio. I am a member of several pottery groups on Facebook, and am enjoying learning from them. I have always HATED glazing… and now find myself looking forward to trying again! There is such a wealth of knowledge! So many options I never knew about. I will be 66 in August… Never too old to learn a new thing! |
| What I Love about Ceramics | The peaceful feeling I get when my hands are in clay. The giggles I get when I am working on a whimsical piece. For me sometimes it is almost hypnotic… |
| How I started with ceramics | I was in my mid-30s or early 40s. I took a continuing education class with my Best Friend at Augusta College in Augusta Georgia. We met two more Best Friends at that class, and PPI was formed. We met once a week to create a new project, then the next week, we fired last weeks work while creating the next batch. We arranged with a local art shop downtown for them to look at our projects and sell them for us. Our plan was that we would invest that money in the stock market. When we called to try to invest our meager dollars, they laughed! That is when the name of our Group was created…”PPI- Piss Poor Investors!” LOLOLOL. We decided to instead INVEST in ourselves, so we spent our money going to workshops…. We are 4 brilliant women. I miss you other three… |
| What inspires me | I love nature. Almost all of God’s creatures. My career was as an Insurance Agent. My God Appointed Job is rescuing little orphan or hurt animals, doing my best to raise them up, then give them back to God by setting them free…. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | Planning my studio. Trying to come up with a suitable Name. Trying to figure out what size the studio needs to be. How to arrange the equipment. What I can’t do without… what I CAN do without. |
