| Introduction |
Centred Clay Studios is a collaborative, guild-style pottery and ceramic community located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We are proud of the community that gathers in our space, their humour, compassion, and support of each other, and of new members who join us. We enjoy watching their successes and breakthroughs, and the relationships that grow and flourish in our studio.
We offer six instructional sessions each week and essentially unlimited studio time for our members.
We “live” in a fantastic quonset 10 minutes south of the city’s down town core, and minutes from all major transportation routes. We provide continuous membership and rolling entry; our intention is to build a thriving community of potters and ceramicists who will make Centred Clay their home studio for many years.
Centred Clay Studios is owned by Ashley Morrow, @CrackedPotCeramics, and Julie Vincent, @muddchuckersclayworks. Ashley has more than 24 years’ experience, and Julie is coming up on 10 years. The studio opened October 1st 2024 and works on the “Dave Settles Model;” Community FIRST!
Our mentors include Dave Settles, who started Ceramics Canada and Fairview Studios in Calgary, and who has taught 1000s of potters since 1973. Dave’s bodhran drum studio still lives in our premises;
Ceramics Calgary, friends, and essential supports for us and the Calgary community of potters;
Tracy Martell – Hippersons – our brilliant ceramicist and surface design expert
Kari Curtis Ceramics, our hand-building and creative guru
The Alberta Potters Association, which is the central hub for potters and ceramicists in the province.
We are so grateful for the support of, and advice from Evonne Smulders, Connie Pike, Amy Bouchard, Leon Drinnan, David Barnes, and to name just a few, and for our wonderful, enthusiastic membership.
We host day-long workshops, evening Try-It events, afternoon seminars, and team-building events for organizations, groups, and corporate interests.
Centred Clay Studios is a member of the Alberta Potters Association.
