About Me

Introduction

I make handmade unique bespoke sterling silver & ceramic jewellery which I high fire to 1220 degrees in an electric kiln from my studio in Exeter, Devon.

My sculpture animals are made from Spencroft clay for a smooth surface or Crank for texture, I decorate by using underglaze colours and oxide washes with the hint of a shiny glaze for example on  boots and buttons. I trained at the University of Plymouth and hold a three-dimensional design degree 2:1

What I Love about Ceramics

It’s earthy quality, how it is fantastic at mimicking the natural world and its ability to bring mother natural into your home/ life to remind you of memories of a place or time.

How I started with ceramics

In school and later in adult evening class, I went on to study ceramics at degree level.

What inspires me

The natural world

What I'm working on at the moment

Combining silver and ceramic to make a unique jewellery collection.

My Artist Statement

I enjoy exploring surface decoration and pattern by working on different surfaces to impart texture or by using erosion. I take pleasure in staining the clay to introduce colour which contrasts beautifully against texture and the shiny silver surface. Working with clay is an essential part of each collection by introducing a pop of colour and experimenting with texture during the silversmithing process. My intention is to carry the mark making process from one craftsmen’s material into another to create a cohesive and individual collection of affordable jewellery. Inspiration comes from organic and found objects.
