About Me
| Introduction | Lenore Howard Am a Australian professional artist of long standing having been involved in major solo and group exhibitions at institutional and commercial galleries. My work is primarily in the areas of painting, works on paper and for my last exhibition in 2021, I included some ceramic works as became a student again to explore this medium. Am a complete novice but am excited by the endless directions. For any images, please view my Instagram account. The main direction has been using Superstition glaze in Raku, but I’ve learnt the colours disappear over time and this does not suit my idea of making artworks have longevity, which is why I want to view Greg Daly’s processes of applying lustre glazes. Apparently Greg has previously delivered a workshop at the art department where I am studying ceramics. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | Endless possibilities of exploration which ties into my normal painting art practice. |
| How I started with ceramics | Through an artists’ workshop delving into ceramics organised by the local art’s institution NorthSite Contemporary Arts. |
| What inspires me | Exploration. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | A series of sculptures. |
| My Artist Statement | BEYOND THE SIGHT OF LAND, 2021, NorthSite Contemporary Arts. Adventure and unpredictability open intangible and unknown worlds. Every work is a physical manifestation of exploration that went beyond the safe and familiar towards a destination for which no defined map exists. Curiosity about possibilities is a constant driving force and along the way dead ends and wrong turns reassuringly offer moments of astonishing surprise when the manipulation of a surface reveals an area that cannot be pre-ordained. Early drawings and compositions were disregarded, rearranged and added to, until at some point the disparate energies came together to form a whole. The journey was a lengthy one and as it progressed, different sculptural qualities and use of space emerged that signal new horizons. |
