About Me

Introduction

I’m from Southern California. I have been making functional ceramics for40 years. I teach ceramics for the City of Los Angeles.

What I Love about Ceramics

I love that the field of ceramics is so vast. It is one of the most flexible mediums.

How I started with ceramics

I took a class at a department of Recreations and Parks near my home when I was 11. Over 40 years later I now run the same department where I started. I teach 6 classes of adult students per week.

What inspires me

Im inspired by nature, seeing the work of other artists and just by making. one thing leads to the next.

What I'm working on at the moment

I am experimenting with coloring clay and throwing with marbelization. I am also trying new forms like flasks and salt and pepper shakers.

My Artist Statement

Above all I am a creator and I feel a great connection to the earth and all forms of animals, but I have a little science geek in me as well. I use artwork including ceramics as an outlet and a form of personal meditation. I am an avid SCUBA diver and I love traveling and being in beautiful outdoor spaces. Walking, exploring, and island hopping around the world inspires me.  I like the idea that traditions, artworks, cultures of another country, discoveries underwater or in the field of science can spark new creativity every day.  I love to find creatures, colors and art forms in nature from the very microscopic to the vast and try to incorporate them into the art I create.
Flowing lines and the harmony I feel when making repeating patterns serves as a touchstone for all of my pieces, while curiosity and observation keep me experimenting and moving forward. I think that handmade art should give us a small rest from our highly processed, manufactured world so each of my pieces is one of a kind.

My CV

I have an AA in Art, a BA in Graphic Design. I have shown in many local shows and sales.
