Introduction
My name is Betty Ackroyd. I am a hand builder who has worked with clay for 9 years. I live in northern Ontario and much of my work reflects the water, trees and rock that surrounds my home.
My work is eclectic, varying from functional to whimsy and sculptural.
I work from a small studio in my home and am a member of the North Bay Potters Guild where I have access to kilns and glazes.
I am passionate about clay!

What I Love about Ceramics
I love the plasticity of clay and the fact that it is 3 dimensional and will form itself into whatever my mind can create.

How I started with ceramics
I started with ceramics when I retired. My creative outlet had always been with painting but an acquaintance who was a hand builder invited me to come to her home and try clay. She was wonderful and I the moment my hands touched the clay, I was hooked!

What I'm working on at the moment
I lost my husband suddenly in the past year and one of the items I am working on is a funeral urn to hold his ashes. It is a coil pot with textured exterior and dome-shaped lid. I plan to attach to the lid some driftwood that I have collected from the nearby shores of beautiful Lake Nipissing where I live.
