Glaze

I use a combination of premixed glazes & recipes  I’ve collected over the years & mix myself. Much of my work is slip decorated; painted on or slip trailed or both.  Usually these are covered in either Campana Clear or Jon’s Clear.

About Me

Introduction

Hi, I’m Kelly Price from Montana in the US. I’ve been making mostly functional pottery for a little over 40 years. I love that there is always something new to discover with clay. Im interested in learning reduction firing in cone 6 temps, in pit firing techniques & just generally seeing how others approach clay & getting together with other artists.

What I Love about Ceramics

Stated above

How I started with ceramics

I took a clay class my senior year of high school then continued learning through college & received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. I then attended Utah State & studied under John Neeley, earning a Masters degree in Ceramic Arts.

What inspires me

Nature inspires me as well as simply clay itself. The wonder of the medium is unending to me. I teach from my own studio occasionally & my students inspire me in their ability to take chances & their enthusiasm as they gain more & more insight each time they work on a project or open the kiln.

What I'm working on at the moment

Im transitioning to a propane kiln ( at the worse possible time as fuel cost sky rockets), & would like to try reduction at cone 6. Im collecting new glaze recipes to try & looking forward to the process.

My Artist Statement

My work is a constant flux as I love to explore many techniques of

decorating the functional surfaces of my pottery. Most is thrown on the wheel but I enjoy handbuilding as well, mostly slab work. I like to think of my pottery as usable, enduring art. The way a cup feels against your lip & in your hands is all a challenge & keeps me engaged in striving for that sweet experience in everyday life.

My CV

My work was recently highlighted in a Facebook publication for MAPs Program which was an honor.  Over the years I’ve participated in multiple shows in Montana, Oregon & Nevada. At present I’m striving to update my website & be more of an online presence, which at my age, isn’t easy. My daughter is a huge help with this. I find I’m much more adept in the studio rather than on the web.
