About Me
| Introduction | I’m Susan from San Diego, California USA. I’m married and we have an adult son. I’m a former graphic designer and jewelry designer– and lifetime artist and gardener. After lessons learned, inspiration, and friendships made in the San Diego pottery community, I began building my own private studio. It was completed in the summer of 2024 and is my lifetime dream come true! Focus: Handbuilding Style: From organic curves and textures to clean-lined contemporary to whimsical. I get bored with the same thing over and over
|
| What I Love about Ceramics | I love how tactile clay is and how it grounds me. And how it feels so magical to make something gorgeous and useful out of an amorphous sticky lump. |
| How I started with ceramics | Messing about in middle school art class and college ceramics and 3-D mold making classes are my entrée into this world. Then in 2021 I took a few semesters of ceramics education in San Diego, California. I then moved a bit closer to our home and became an active member of Oceanside Pottery Club. There I was given an opportunity to teach handbuilding. In 2024 I completed construction of a home studio, and am now happily making some magic there. |
| What inspires me | Nature inspires me quite a bit…but so does traveling, sightseeing and hanging out with other creatives. Honestly, I find inspiration in the smallest things, and my head is always full of ideas. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | Currently in March 2025 I am busy making ceramic jewelry, and preparing to go to the Craftcation 2025 conference in Ventura, CA. I have plans to make home products, totems and other garden sculpture. I am finishing a set of dinnerware, an outdoor wall art display, and making succulent planters. I’m practicing making slab built bowls and so far, they look pretty bad! |
