About Me
Introduction | I got into ceramics in 2014 and was immediately hooked. I graduated in 2019 at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lier, Belgium. |
What I Love about Ceramics | I love the endless possibilities and learning opportunities, the relaxing effect it has on me and the positive effect it has on my mood and mental health. I wrote a book about clay and mental health called “mental healing through clay; a journey to self acceptance and stress relief”. On my site I publish regular blogs about clay and mental health and you can find links to my podcasts “mind and clay” |
How I started with ceramics | My husband signed me up for a pottery class to help me fight a depression in 2014. |
What inspires me | I am inspired by the Irish Sea and the Emerald Ireland is known for, but also by Japanese pottery and Japanese gardens. |
What I'm working on at the moment | I am working on my branding by concentrating on functional and decorative pieces with signature glazing. Mostly my work is wheel thrown and possibly altered and combined with hand built parts, sprigs, decals and underglaze patterns. |
My Artist Statement | Most of my inspiration still comes from our trip to Japan a couple of years ago. My little Buddha’s are the most evident embodiment of this inspiration source, but it still influences other work as well, in a more subtle way: the choice of colour, texture and glaze effects. |
My CV | I came in touch with clay only in 2014, I wish I’d known it long before! I graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Lier, Belgium in 2019. Besides our yearly exhibitions, I was lucky enough to show my work in some more exhibitions and won the first prize in an internal art competition organised at the European Commission in 2017. Currently I live in Ireland and am about to start a small business with the aim to sell my ceramics, give courses and sell some pottery supplies. |
