Introduction
My name is Vega. Named after the star in the Lyre that can be seen in the fall in Norway and the United States. My parents are from Norway and I was the first born in the US…in the fall. I live in Alexandria, Virginia. I was a Commercial Interior Designer for 25+ years in Washington, DC.  Now I sell Commercial Office furniture but hoping I will be able to move over to full time Ceramic Artist. I take classes at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. Amazing place. A bit slow and sad due to the pandemic but I hope it comes back stronger then ever.
I look forward to being able to travel again. I have so much family in Norway and have not seen them forever. I have an awesome husband Karl and a handsome 21 year old son named Benjamin. He is a junior at James Madison University. They both make this lady proud!

What I Love about Ceramics
I love love love handbuilding. So many options. So many ideas! I don’t know how to slim it down and focus! I also like slip casting and hope to explore that area as well. As a designer..I would love to create a beautiful line of dishes and candle holders and things to ornament your home. I am so grateful to all the amazing artists out there willing to show and share their beautiful work, talent and visions. Amazing!

How I started with ceramics
I took a class at the Torpedo Factory and instantly was hooked! I have taken classes with 4 different teachers there and learn something amazing from each of them. I plan to see if I can join the Kiln Team to be of service. It is such a blessing to have a great place to go!

What inspires me
Objects inspire me. Small like a spoon to big like a building. Shapes, color, and tension between them. I just visited an Alexander Caulder exhibit at the National Gallery in DC…Amazing.

What I'm working on at the moment
Unusual candle holders. It is somewhat copying someone I see on line. I am trying different things to find my own voice while learning the material and its limitations.

My Artist Statement
I am Vega. A designer. A new potter. Looking for connections, advice and ways to grow my passion in ceramics. If anyone buys my work…I will feel validated.
