About Me
| Introduction | my name is Joanna. I come from Poland. I lived very long in Germny, then UK and 5 years in UAE. I visited Japan and won aa Sumi e award in National museum in Tokyo in Exibition Art for all in 2019. After 15 years of searching the best way of expressing myself I opened my own business concentrating on unique ceramic tableware design and 3D sculpture.
It gives me a lot of satisfaction and joy to create unique objects, trying new designs and combining ceramic with other materials such as wood, metal or other natural materials. My works are all heart and handmade objects that are from an idea becoming reality. Every piece is hand sculptured, including plates and tea cups. I use often traditional Japanese kurinuki method – curving each piece from one solid block of clay. This process makes every cup unique with personal touch. Other techniques are wheel thrown or using plaster mold. Wood sculptures are finished in shou shugi ban technique.
I love clay, Japanese Sumi e painting and I am interior design architect. I try to combine all these passions together |
| What I Love about Ceramics | the perfect imperfection, the excitement every time I open the kiln, the endless possibilities , calmness |
| How I started with ceramics | I haaad a very frustrated time with 3rd child and working and building a house and I needed and dreamed of 2 hours just for myself to save me from insanity. and I decided finally to try something I always dreamed of: ceramic classes. and it turned out this was exactly the biggest passion of my life I was searching for 🙂 clay is my life 🙂 |
| What inspires me | everything around me… colours, shapes, nature…. its how we can see things in other way as we used to look every day |
| What I'm working on at the moment | my first big sculpture, and a very openwork vessel |
| My Artist Statement | Art is Love of our Creation. nothing is impossible. creating is a spirit language. |
| My CV |
