About Me
Introduction | Hi Everyone, This is Sarah, we live between Australia and New Zealand and since Covid lockdown have been staying in NZ. All my life I have loved creating and have done so in some form or other since I can remember. I have been painting on and off for the past 20 years am relatively new to Ceramics. This started with a hand building class in July 2020. I then tried a wheel class and by now was totally hooked on both forms of building pottery. I now have a wheel and kiln am loving playing around with glazes and different techniques of applying these. |
What I Love about Ceramics | The things I am loving the most at this stage are the changes you can make with a piece of clay. I have found starting on the wheel and finishing of with some sculptural hand building a lot of fun and am about to explore this further. I am also enjoying the challenge of glazing my pieces and being suprised at the outcomes. My next challenge is to start drawing/painting more onto my finished pieces now that I have discovered some different types of ceramic pencils and paints. |
How I started with ceramics | Ceramics was always something I wanted to try and the timing has been perfect for me over the past year or so. |
What inspires me | My inspiration is colour, nature, the outdoors both in Australia and New Zealand (both very different but also sometimes the same). I love design, architecture, beautiful gardens, clothing – anything visual really!! |
What I'm working on at the moment | I am currently attending wheel classes to become more consistent in my work and am also working on some new handbuilding projects such as large bowls, serving platters and water jugs. |
