| Introduction |
Hi there all,
My name is Suzanne White, and most people call me Suz. I claim I am from Tucson, Arizona, where I currently live, although I have spent a lot of my life travelling and the last 22 years living in southern Spain. There I started a family and worked as an ESL teacher until 2018 when I attended the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Granada. I am inspired by the andalusà traditional pottery, and the innate fusion of that culture with all others. I would like to strive to continually let that be reflected in my work, as well as the time of my life that I am learning from now.

| What I Love about Ceramics |
Ceramics came into my life at a time of great transformation and understanding of the world and myself. I see my training in ceramics running parallel to my own life’s lessons, particularly the realisation that mistakes are a welcome gift, and that you can always start over.
|
| How I started with ceramics |
My wonderful time at the art school in Granada included hand-building, sculpting, mold-making, and development of decoration techniques and colours. I had zero experience when I started, just a love for Fajalauza Pottery, traditional in AndalucÃa, and a desire to learn and to perhaps propagate the ceramic arts in general.
|
| What inspires me |
My underlying inspiration in a fusion of traditional potteries has not changed. Yet, specifically, at any given time, I can be inspired by anything. I am very practical with my ideas at the moment because I am just starting out, so I adapt my inspiration to what I know how to do and to what materials I have. I am very excited to build on that for the rest of my life.
|
| What I'm working on at the moment |
Right now I am testing materials I have found at my local ceramic store after moving back to my hometown. Mostly hand building, sculpting, and experimenting, I am thoroughly enjoying the complete freedom my current beginner status affords me.
|
| My Artist Statement |
I am working on organic forms that I do not plan, practising as many techniques as possible, like, coil and slab building, pinching, sculpting, mold making and slip casting. I have star and fish Christmas ornaments, soap dishes, assorted cups and bowls, vases, and a sculpted whale. The color pallete is created with black copper oxide, red iron oxide, yellow pigment, and manganese dioxide. I use them mixed in a white slip to get colors that remind me of the subdued hues of an early sunset in purple, pink, cream, and light yellows. I can later take any form, color, texture that I like, and use them for inspiration going forward.
