I have never been a “directions follower” when it comes to art projects. I have always looked at the project, said “oh yeah. I’ve got this”, and then done what I wanted. So rules and boundaries are suggestions to me. I seem to also be the person who speaks up when I see some form of injustice or disrespect or illegal, or immoral thing. It doesnt always endear me to others.
On most projects, or life situations, I start by observing and asking questions. What is happening here? Who says or does what or makes this “rule”? Why is this rule here, what is the benefit? Who benefits from this? In what ways or why? After I have observed, and thought about things for a while, I then start asking “What would happen if…?” “What if we do it this way?” And I ask that of people as well.
So I think I am going to take the “rules” of making a piece, perhaps a teapot, and turn all those rules topsy turvey. Put the opening on its side, spout upside down, handle wonky, etc, and then make one that is functional and (hopefully) works well.
I pray I have enough time for this project. I pray the situation with people who need their “boundaries” checked goes over well (new work situation that seems to have a slight toxicity),
Let’s shake things up a bit and see what happens.
Also, when is this project due?
That is one of my hardest “rules” to follow. I always think I have enough time, but all of a sudden, I missed the deadline again. That is one boundary breaking thing I would like to change about me, is my time blindness.

Watched a video called 30 techniques in 30 days, mostly painnting, some mixed media, was a way the artist pushed his own boundaries. Intriguing. Then watched portrait artist of the year. Making a self portrait, whether a painting or a mask or bist out of clay would puch mt boundaries. Making, redesigning, or deconstructing a teapot is also a way to push my boundaries because I have not thrown and constructed a teapot before. I have hand built a couple but it has been years and they did not function well at all. So these are some thoughts I am toying with atm.
