About Me
| Introduction | My name is Alexandra Radu, I’m from Romania and I make one of o kind and small series of porcelain objects, fired at 1280 °C -1300 °C with illustrations on them (underglaze decoration). I usually use pigments and make my own underglazes to paint on bisque but I recently started to experiment with amaco underglazes. I love how the illustration trapt between the porcelain and the clear glaze becomes permanent. |
| What I Love about Ceramics | I love everything about ceramics the process, teaches you patience and letting go and the end result. Nothing compares with the feeling of holding in your hands an object that you made, it’s amazing! I also love the sound that porcelain makes when struck gently…it sings 🙂 |
| How I started with ceramics | I started in college. I went to study glass but ended up spending more time in the ceramic studio. After that, I bought my own kiln and set up my home studio, and never looked back. |
| What inspires me | I’m inspired by nature and Japanese stamps and ink drawings. |
| What I'm working on at the moment | I’m preparing for a small online fair by https://www.instagram.com/un_katun/ and working on a new collection of sculptural objects for flower arrangements. |
| My Artist Statement | I think in this day and age, we have an unhealthy relationship with objects, they are mass-produced and disposable. I’m trying to make objects that people can relate to and get attached to, objects that have souls. |
