Step 1: Prepare Your Clay
Start by kneading your air-dry clay until it’s soft and easy to work with. This will help you shape it smoothly.
Step 2: Make the Heart Shape
Roll out your clay to about 1/4 inch thick. Use the heart template or shape the heart by hand, to create the cat’s body.
Step 3: Add the Ears
Take two small pieces of clay and form them into triangles. Attach them to the top of the heart at the rounded corners to form the cat’s ears. Gently press them onto the heart and use water to smooth the edges so the ears blend with the head.
Step 4: Add Facial Details
Using a toothpick or a clay tool, carve in the cat’s eyes, nose, whiskers, and mouth. You can keep it simple or get creative with your details!
Step 5: Make the Cat Stand
To make the cat stand upright, take a small chunk of clay and press it onto the back of the cat’s body at the bottom. Shape this piece into a little base that supports the cat, making sure it’s big enough to balance the cat and keep it stable.
Step 6: Let It Dry
Place your cat upright on a flat surface and let the clay dry completely, usually 24-48 hours. Make sure the cat is well-supported while drying so it stays in the correct position.
Step 7: Paint (Optional)
Once your cat is dry, you can paint it using acrylic paints. You can give it realistic colors, or go wild with bright, fun shades!
